Project Summary

Aim

  1. To develop a commercialisation strategy for i-Impact and implement into NHS trusts.
  1. To determine effectiveness of i-Impact through real world evidence.

Background i-Impact is a digital Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) programme that improves outcomes for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease through a bespoke programme of exercise and education. This was provisionally recommended by National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), pending real-world results.

Methods The team will work with their collaborators to develop an effective commercialisation strategy through stakeholder mapping and interviews to understand barriers/enablers to implementation. A roadmap to commercialisation will be developed, including costing models. They will implement i-Impact in ~20 trusts to gather real world data. They will access data through the i-Impact programme, and the National Respiratory Audit Programme to analyse number of patients enrolled and completing, and changes in clinical outcomes (including exercise capacity and quality of life).

Impact Upon completion of this project the results will be shared with patients, healthcare staff, commissioners and government. They will report back to NICE to ensure recommendation within the NHS and inclusion in the accreditation standards. The team will continue with their commercialisation plan ensuring widespread NHS adoption and explore the potential for global market expansion.
