Dr Maria Elena Giannaccini’s work focuses on soft robotics applied to the healthcare field, especially wearable devices for rehabilitation. Her research also includes safety in human-robot interaction, bioinspired tactile sensors and soft robotic implantable devices. She has also contributed to research on perspective-taking in human-robot interaction. She pioneered research in soft robotics both at the University of Aberdeen and at the University of Nottingham. She is part of the organising committee for the Soft Robotics for Healthcare conference.
